Dignity, Or Lack Thereof

On MSNBC, today, you can find an article along with video, about a disabled man and his treatment by a deputy.

Truthfully, I’m sickened by it.  However, Kyron is much more coherent about it then I am, and you should go read her article about it.

I have a criminal justice degree (although I don’t currently use it) and know many police officers. I highly respect the profession and support them. However, it is a sad fact that some individuals go into police work so they can have a position of authority. They are rude and bullies. I don’t see how any individual merits this kind of treatment, disabled or otherwise. We need to respect each other. I realize that as a police officer you have to deal with some real delinquents, but you are an officer of the law and you have to continue to treat everyone fairly. If you cannot do this, then you need to find another line of work. Personally, I couldn’t bring myself to watch the video, but I did read the article. That alone made me sick to my stomach.
